Mount Mercy College
Mount Mercy College is a Catholic liberal arts college in
Cedar Rapids, Iowa. It is a four-year, private, co-educational
institution that was founded in 1928 by the Sisters of Mercy.
Mount Mercy's main focus for students is intellectual
development and strong career preparation. The college offers
at least 34 majors in the liberal arts area and professional
programs.
The Mount Mercy campus is approximately
40 acres in size. It can be found in a residential neighborhood
in the heart of Cedar Rapids. The college awarded its first
bachelor's degree in 1959, and is accredited by the Higher
Learning Commission of the North Central Association of
Colleges and Schools, the Council on Social Work Education, and
the State Board of Nursing and the Commission on Collegiate
Nursing Education.
Mount Mercy College is a rather small school with a student
body of 992 full-time students and 1482 overall students. If
you are considering applying for Mount Mercy, keep in mind that
the average highschool GPA for current students is 3.43, and 74
percent graduated in the top half of their class.
Mount Mercy has a 65,000 square foot Busse Library with over
100 computers and over 100,000 volumes. The college puts out an
official newspaper called the Mount Mercy Times. Athletically,
the college is a member of the NAIA and the Midwest Classic
Conference. Mount Mercy offers a variety of intercollegiate
sports and intramural sports.
